Age of Inversion

Simply describing one facet of life in 2023

Recently a friend of mine tweeted:

The purpose of a modern university is to conceal and destroy knowledge.

The purpose of a modern state is to deconstruct and eventually destroy the nation it rules.

The purpose of modern law enforcement is to prevent citizens from being secure in their property.

This general sentiment was echoed by an Irishman, who tweeted that, in our age,

Everywhere inversion is the name of the cabalist game.

He gives some examples, but in my view the list could be greatly extended. The point he was making is one that applies to almost every aspect of officialdom today. Thus, it serves as a quick and clear illustration of how perverse our society has become. It is not merely that things don’t work as they should (which could be explained by incompetence); often they do the exact opposite of what they should (which can only be deliberate).

Or at least, the effect of their work is the opposite of what would naturally be assumed to be the goal of each organisation. If it does not violate its purported purpose in the letter, it certainly does in the spirit. This makes the deception all the more perverse: active effort goes into concealing the fact that the organisation is subverted. It will have rules, and will follow them closely, yet somehow end up achieving the opposite of its raison d’être.

The overall effect of this, for the “citizen” of today’s Western society, is confusion. The phenomenon is so massive that you think you must be imagining it, or you must be misunderstanding something, or you must have missed vital evidence that would show that everything is actually okay.

But no… you are not imagining it, you are not misunderstanding, and you have not missed any vital evidence. It’s as bad as you fear. For the sake of posterity, let us count the ways in which everything is not okay:

• doctors kill and harm

• scientists discourage and obstruct free inquiry

• institutions of learning punish free inquiry

• parties of “the workers” shill for bankers and big pharma

• green activists destroy the natural world, especially with so-called renewable energy

• governments supposedly fighting climate change destroy the natural environment

• supposedly nationalist parties advocate globalism. In Ireland Sinn Féin (“We Ourselves”) champions erasing the Irish people. In Scotland the SNP champions erasing the Scots.

• police punish the innocent and facilitate the guilty

• academics spread confusion, not clarity

• town councils uglify their own towns

• national institutions deny the existence of their nation’s ethnos

• historians misrepresent history

• journalists spread lies and protect the powerful

• protesters advocate for the establishment

• conservatives conserve nothing

• socialists betray the working-class

• museums erase and distort history

• so-called “heritage” organisations literally destroy objects of heritage

• teachers allow intelligent pupils to remain illiterate

• artists create ugliness and besmirch their betters

• architects destroy beauty

• the Church promotes nihilism

• heritage organisations distort heritage and negate our attachment to our own heritage

• so-called “fact checkers” obfuscate facts

Whenever I use the expression “in our age”, this is what I’m talking about. It is an age in which every civic institution is working diligently and with great resources to utterly transform society - and it is working not in furtive isolation, but in proud and open concert with every other institution, because they all have the same goals, the same attitudes, and often the same staff and the same funders.

If the institutions that “produce truth” are inverted, little wonder that so is the “truth” they produce:

The ordinary citizen today is bombarded, pressured constantly to believe a dozen things that he either suspects or knows to be untrue. This pressure is applied by institutions in his society that have been corrupted. And the pressure can only work because all the institutions have been corrupted. There is nowhere left for him to turn for consultation, for wisdom, for rescue. At least, nowhere official. The pillars of his society, the seats of learning, the fonts of wisdom… in a better age, they would have saved him from confusion and ignorance; today, they work to put him in that state and keep him there. The ordinary citizen in 2023 is betrayed, daily, by those he should be able to trust, wants to trust, and in a way needs to trust.

The first obvious question is whether all of this is accidental or deliberate. But even if it is deliberate, to what extent do the people responsible even know what they are doing, as opposed to following wrong-headed incentives? This is the quandary over whether the insanity is “orchestrated” or “emergent”.

I am personally of the belief that very little of this is emergent. I find it hard to believe that sensible people could continue down insane paths for very long without realising it and correcting themselves, their peers and their subordinates, and (with a view to correcting the incentives they themselves have to abide by) complaining to their superiors. The fact that this never seems to happen - even to the point that intelligent adults are advocating trans therapy (brainwashing) for children - makes me think it has to be orchestrated. By that I mean conscious, deliberate and desired.

Sure, most people are NPCs, but at some point in the hierarchy you must eventually find people who can think for themselves. Yet it never occurs to those people that perverting the natural development of children might be unwise? I find that implausible. No, they know what they are doing. Independently-thinking individuals are present in the corridors of power, and they are deciding every day to continue enforcing and expanding these programmes of subversion. This means not only that the insanity is orchestrated, but that there are people who knowingly orchestrate insanity.

So we learn two things about human nature: a decisive majority of the leaders in our species are prepared to enforce evil, and a massive majority of the followers in our species are prepared to go along with it. Of all the red pills, this one might be the hardest to swallow, because unlike the others there is no obvious solution to it. The other red pills indict specific elements of the human species, but this one indicts the vast majority, which in turn forces you to revise your notion of what people are. Most of them are effectively incapable of thought, and most of those who are capable of it, are willing to do evil. So, are they worth fighting for? I tell myself, like Winston, that the human spirit is suffering just now, but will eventually rebel against its tormentors - and the insanity, whether it is orchestrated or emergent, will be purged.

The second obvious question is “why is everything being inverted?” What is the point of doing this? Of course there will be, and always has been, corruption in society, with some institutions sometimes falling short of public expectations and their own remit, but what we see now is obviously not that. It is not a “usual” amount of corruption, and it is not a usual type of corruption. It does not line the pockets of bad apple employees or maximise profit for the organisation, nor does it serve the greater good in society by cutting the odd corner or telling the odd white lie. It does not serve the greater good at all. It serves the interests of the powerful at the grave expense of the public - to the point of systematically attacking their existence.

I doubt that treachery at this scale has ever occurred before in human history. But if we leave the genocidal intent aside and focus just on the inversion of truth, even then, what we are seeing today has probably not been seen for many, many generations. Now, prior to this age, were things as they seemed, or as they were described to the public? Doubtless, no. I’m sure the public have always been mis-led here and there in order to keep the cogs of society turning. But what we are seeing is not that, either. On the contrary, the cogs of society will not keep turning; the entire machine will be blown apart.

So why… why is everything being inverted? My only conclusion, as of just now, is that it is being done specifically to confuse and disorientate the public. I think it makes them malleable, and doubtful of their own ability to understand things and therefore less likely to rebel against, well, anything.

If this is the rationale, then all of this inversion would surely be the first sign of an emerging tyrannical power, shaping the human masses in preparation for its rule. While it flatters them with democracy, it is entirely uninterested in their views and indeed in them; it wants to neutralise them as agents in “the game of life”.

I might be wrong about both of these questions. Either way…

Western society today, whether it is England or Sweden or Germany, heaves and twitches and struggles under a system of institutions that are working constantly to destroy it and drive its citizens into despair and eventually, presumably, extinction.

If those citizens ever woke up en masse, I can only think there would not be enough lamp posts for them to obtain their satisfaction. After such a density of organised lying, the explosive striving back towards truth would be beautiful but also terrifying. Who knows where it might end up; so many decades of deceit will have blinded us.
